Minutes of Meeting 23 November 2008

  1. Minutes of last meeting agreed
    1. Nominated and seconded by Judith and Richard

  2. Treasurers Report
    1. Current account stands at £1017.81, interest account stands at £6872.46
    2. Figures for same period on previous years - £8125.95 (2008) £5903.75 (2007)
    3. Petty cash held £235.68
    4. As normal any members attending bookings during December will receive a percentage of the takings to put towards the cost of accommodation at Butlins

  3. Scarves/Ties
    1. Judith had looked into ordering extra bow ties, will be £4.95 each but not in stock at present
    2. Richard had looked at availability/colours of ties at Matalan but there were no suitable matches
    3. To be ordered from same company that provided existing ties
    4. Ian to speak with Mick to see if Greene King will sponsor

  4. CRB Checks
    1. All paperwork now submitted to Amber Valley CVS in respect of Andrew
    2. Richard to obtain locking key safe for storage of responses

  5. 2009 Holiday
    1. Feedback obtained from band – interest split equally between July and August
    2. Holland favourite of the 3 locations
    3. Consider 1st week of August
    4. Nigel will e-mail John in Holland to see what dates are available
    5. For further discussion at next meeting – consideration of forming a sub-committee

  6. Instrument/Music Loan from Riddings Band
    1. Two trombones and euphonium still to be added to insurance
    2. No further music arrived as yet – Martyn to chase

  7. 2009 Contest Planning
    1. Richard to publish list of dates so can see who is available
    2. Start applying for park concerts in January
    3. Approx contest dates
      1. Jan - Butlins
      2. Mar - Rolls Royce & Area
      3. Jun - Buxton, Whit Friday Marches & Morley
      4. Jul - Brighouse & Silkstone
      5. Sep - Dronfield
      6. Oct - Pontins
      7. Nov - Leicester and Leamington

  8. Youth Band/Training (Junior) Band
    1. Considered important to carry on with youth contests, otherwise some of the younger members don’t get the experience of contesting
    2. Re point 10(d) of previous minutes. Andrew expressed concern that children might be put off if no instrument provided. Suggested possibility of hiring instrument to new members.
    3. If new children do attend Andrew will make arrangements to assist with tuition. Marie Smith has indicated that she will not be taking on new students.
    4. Marie to contact Music Partnership, Education Department at DCC to obtain list of schools taking part in initiative to provide brass tuition

  9. Christmas Practices
    1. 21 & 28/12/08, 4 & 11 January
    2. Richard to check availability for extra practice 30 December

  10. Christmas Party – 10 January
    1. Andrea will provide food for approx £400
    2. Disco to be arranged

  11. Butlins Contest Band
    1. Catherine Ashley only playing in youth band
    2. Andrew doesn’t want to borrow players, but fill spaces using junior players
    3. Richard to arrange registration for Jon Harvey (back row cornet), Charlotte Lievesley (horn) and Adam Lievesley (percussion)

  12. MD – Training (Junior) Band
    1. Pete has announced that he would like to retire following Butlins
    2. Ben possibly interested, but no commitment as yet
    3. Emma Walton also expressed interest
    4. Rachel has also been giving a little tuition

  13. Band Members
    1. Paul Smith has resigned from Bb
    2. Players still required – front & back row cornets, possibly horns later in 2009

  14. Pantomime
    1. Welfare are putting on Dick Whittington 29 December 1830
    2. Free for children
